Call it pure brilliance or a brilliant gimmick, but I've combined the two types of music that I'm into that drives people nuts. Those types being Dancehall from the 90s and pure Houston chopped and screwed jams. All vinyl and all slowed up so you can ride all day and bang til the wheels fall off, rude bwoy. BLAAAAAOOOW!!! So here it is. I've wanted to get this one together for a while now so I finally got around to it. All Prince and Prince affiliates. I wanted to give Morris and Jerome some light so I included "777-9311" and "Mutiny" which were written by Moris and Jerome respectively. The Kid produced them though and the rest is pure PURPLE, yo. I wanted to include some jams that I always have thought to be sort of overlooked so there's quite a few b-sides and deeper album joints. Lots of hits as well, closing naturally with "Purple Rain". So break out your blouses, lace gloves, high heeled boots and taco meat chest hair and hook us up with some PANCAKES!!
Tell 'em Camille and Jamie Starr said so.

I was pulling out records for this when I started to think "What the hell do I know about 'new wave' anyhow?" The answer was 'Not much' so I just started looking for all of the records I had with bugged out synth and drum machines. Not to mention some FLAVOR hair and makeup jobs. This recording is the result of that search. There's also mad British accents in these jams, so you know it's legit. It even includes literal German techno. Ach du lieber!! I even managed to sneak a breakbeat in there somewheres. Take your ass back to the club.(20 years ago)

Whussup freaks. Here's a repost of an exxxtra f-f-frrresh jammie that I recorded last year. It was only up for a couple of days because I mistakenly took it down when I was drunkenly posting a follow up. Cest la vie. I was reminded of it because my wife put me on the phone with one of her students who, apparently, is a thorough B-Boy. He asked me to copy some of the SHITLOAD of breaks that I have on my computer so he and his crew could rock to the classics. I was more than happy to oblige seeing as how I love giving the youngsters a little history lesson whenever I can. To paraphrase Russel Jones.....Franklin Mint is for the CHILDREN!!! So.....in addition to the 100 or so of my favorite breaks that I copied for him, I threw this one into the mix in the hopes of furthering a discourse regarding the roots of hip hop with this kid. I hope he likes it. I hope you do too. Play this at your next barbeque right at dusk when erryone is pretty faded and you'll know in your heart of hearts that everything is gonna be alright. Peace.

So the other day, I took requests on Twitter for what my next podcast would be. Out of the overwhelming response, the most interesting one was "new wave" from my boy Dom. Then I was like "What about 80's?" and he was all "Too broad"..........So I intended to do that New Wave podcast, but in the course of getting it all together, I came across a wealth of 80's jams on 45......So here it is....I never even made it to picking thru the 12"s (which is a far more vast collection than the 45s) I promise to get to the new wave one soon but I had to get this out of my system. Now.....what I ask of all of you is to listen to this and know that I honestly like these songs for a variety of reasons. Mostly because they're all good songs and were basically dominating the radio when I was a kid (yeah....I'm old) so I have an attachment to them. That's why I bought them in the first place. (also because they were so cheap...someone had to give them a home) At the very least, tell your older sibling that someone still rocks these jams from time to time. Enjoy.
(really....I promise to do a new-waveish one in the next couple of weeks....right after the "Attack Of Motherfucking PRINCE!!!!" podcast that will make you wear blouses.....REAL TALK, YO.)

These are all of the 45s I picked up on this years Record Store Day. In fact, I bought nothing but 45s that day at a couple of different spots. A couple of them are pretty tore up (especially the first one) but I got them anyway because the songs are so cool and they were only a nickel. I tried to put them into some sort of order to further your enjoyment. There's a few bona fide classics on this one so keep your ears peeled. (I guess) DIG IT!!

YOOOOOOOH. Here's a bunch of songs that rap nerds of today cut their rap nerd teeth on. Someone mentioned that I play lots of newer (read:commercial) rap tunes and I tried to explain that you can dig both but they were all "PPSSSHHHHT!!' and I was all "WWHHHHAAAT?" So I dug these gems out. Guaranteed to please all of the old heads out there, it's full of remixes, b-sides and various rare shit. From one rap nerd to another......Enjoy.
